Women Bankers will now get Periods Leave 1 day each month. Read Complete Article.
Since a long time, women bankers have been working shoulder to shoulder with their male colleagues. And, when they are need of 1 or 2 days leave not because of illness or sickness, but because of biological reasons, there have been many such incidences where their male leave approving authorities demand a medical certificate that clearly mentions the reason for such leave.
Thus, thinking of avoiding useless discussions and sexist comments at workplace, our lady bankers have been working in those painful days from 10 AM till 6PM (even 9PM). The 12th BPS Salary Settlement for bankers has finally acknowledged this scenario and allowed 1 sick leave each month to female bankers, that too without the need to produce any medical certificate.
This, however is not a pioneering step. Bihar Govt. has been giving 2 days Periods leave to its female employees each month since 1992. The human resource guidelines of the Bihar government states that:
“All women staff is eligible to avail two days of special leave every month because of biological reason. This is in addition to all the other eligible leaves.”
The 12th BPS might have paved the path for new things but our female bankers deserve a 2-day each month leave for their biological reasons. We hope that the banking unions that are male dominant might look into this and take this issue seriously in the next BPS and not just the 5 day work week.
